Product detailed description

Clos Louie 2011 shows how well wines from Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux can age. After more than a decade, youthful fruit notes gradually merge with more subtle tertiary nuances without losing the wine's freshness. The result is a balanced and refined expression that is typical of a well-matured Merlot from the right bank.

The nose reveals ripe dark fruit, prunes, fine spices and a hint of tobacco. The palate is harmonious, with fine tannins, a pleasant juiciness and a long finish. The wine is ready to open and offers a nice example of mature Bordeaux without being unnecessarily robust.

Serve at 16-18 °C. A shorter decantation of approximately 30 minutes will help the wine to fully develop its aromas. It goes well with roast beef, lamb, game and hard mature cheeses.

Clos Louie is a unique small family-owned estate located in the Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux appellation. This micro-winery is built on a deep respect for traditional practices and biodynamic farming, with a focus on preserving the natural character of the vineyard and allowing the wine to develop with minimal intervention.

The greatest treasure of the estate is its old vines, with some parcels containing vines more than 150 years old, including a portion planted before the phylloxera epidemic. This rare historic vineyard heritage represents exceptional genetic material from Bordeaux’s past. The unique blend of grape varieties includes Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rare Carménère, which contributes to the wine’s distinctive character.

Through meticulous hand work, natural fermentation, and a very gentle approach to winemaking, Clos Louie produces wines of remarkable depth, complexity, and structure. The wines offer an authentic expression of their historic terroir while also possessing impressive ageing potential.
