Product detailed description

Château Hervé Laroque 2016 from the right bank of Bordeaux shows the typical power and elegance of the Fronsac appellation. The wine has a dark ruby color and the aroma is dominated by ripe black fruit - blackberries, plums and cassis - complemented by notes of violets, tobacco and light spices. The taste is full, with smooth but pronounced tannins, fresh acidity and a mineral finish. A stylishly balanced wine that goes well with beef, game and hearty stews.

This wine is the second wine of the prestigious Château Moulin Haut-Laroque winery, which is appreciated for its elegant and more accessible style compared to the main wine. The wine offers a beautiful image of the Fronsac terroir, but with a finer structure, thanks to which it is excellently drinkable at a younger age.

Château Moulin Haut-Laroque

Château Moulin Haut-Laroque is a historic winery in the Fronsac appellation in Bordeaux. The name of the winery refers to a mill that once stood on its grounds and the Hervé family, who have owned these lands since the early 17th century. Interestingly, the oldest preserved bottles date back to 1890, and several of them are still in the family's possession.

The 16-hectare vineyard is situated on slopes with clay-limestone soils, ideal for growing vines. It is planted with Merlot (65%), Cabernet Franc (20%), Cabernet Sauvignon (10%), and Malbec (5%), with an average vine age of 50 years. The wine is aged in French oak barrels, 40% of which are new each year, contributing to its balance and complexity. Château Moulin Haut-Laroque wine is characterized by a dark ruby color and aromas of dark fruit, spices, and vanilla. On the palate, it is full-bodied with well-balanced tannins and a long finish. Due to its complexity and structure, it is suitable for immediate drinking as well as aging.

Besides its main wine, the winery also produces a second wine under the brand Château Hervé-Laroque. This is made predominantly from grapes from younger vines and plots that do not reach the maximum ripeness required for the main cuvée. Just like Moulin Haut-Laroque, it reflects the terroir of Fronsac, but in a more approachable, fruitier, and softer style, intended for earlier consumption. The grapes are harvested by hand, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by aging in barrels. The aging lasts approximately 12–18 months, using about 35–40% new barrels. The result is an elegant wine with notes of red and black fruit, subtle spice, and soft tannins, offering great value for money.

Château Moulin Haut-Laroque is an exemplary Bordeaux winery that combines traditional vinification methods in wooden vats with modern technologies to achieve the highest quality. The vineyards are managed sustainably and with respect for the environment. Their wines are sought after by lovers of quality Bordeaux wines worldwide and regularly receive awards at international wine competitions. The winery offers tours and tastings for visitors, making it an attractive destination for wine enthusiasts.
