Product detailed description

Château de Pitray 2016 is an elegant and terroir-coloured wine. It is a beautiful garnet colour with ruby highlights and opens on the nose with a complex expression of roasted black fruits — morello cherries, blackberries and blackcurrants — complemented by a tactful touch of forest soil and fine spices. On the palate it is medium-full, with supple, precisely guided tannins, a lightness of incense and a precision that recalls the elegant Cabernet Franc of the Loire Valley. Although the wine has “only” medium length, it is highly recommended for its distinctive expression and fine structure.

Recommended with meaty dishes such as beef, veal or game; requires decanting about an hour before serving.

Château de Pitray

Château de Pitray is one of the oldest family estates in Bordeaux, with roots dating back to the 14th century. As early as 1466, the nobleman Jehan de La Symas owned vineyards here, and the property has since been passed down through the same family for centuries. Today, the estate is in the hands of the de Boigne family. Château de Pitray is located in the village of Gardegan, facing south and only 8 kilometers from the famous Saint-Émilion.

The vineyards cover approximately 36 hectares of contiguous plots situated on clay-limestone hillsides, giving the wines distinctive character and minerality. The plantings are dominated by Merlot (73–75%), complemented by Cabernet Franc (23%) and Malbec (around 4%). With an average vine age of about 30 years, the estate achieves wines of depth and balance.

Winemaking here combines respect for tradition with a carefully considered modern approach. Every step, from harvest to ageing, is guided by a commitment to quality and the expression of the unique terroir.

The resulting wines are typical of Bordeaux’s Right Bank – elegant, fruit-forward, with silky tannins and a harmonious structure. Château de Pitray offers an authentic expression of its region, while remaining approachable and enjoyable even for less experienced wine lovers.
