Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux
Castillon – Côtes de Bordeaux is an appellation on Bordeaux’s Right Bank, directly bordering the prestigious Saint-Émilion. Covering around 3,000 hectares of vineyards, it is one of the historically important wine areas of the region. The vineyards are planted on slopes and plateaus overlooking the Dordogne River, benefiting from excellent exposure and a diverse mix of soils ranging from clay-limestone to gravel and sand.
The dominant grape variety is Merlot, which thrives here and produces supple, fruit-driven wines with round tannins. It is often complemented by Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, adding structure and elegance. The wines are well-balanced, approachable, yet with good aging potential.
Castillon has earned a reputation for delivering wines with strong terroir expression at more accessible prices than neighboring Saint-Émilion. In recent years, many ambitious winemakers have contributed to raising the quality of the appellation even further.
